A “Sit and go” is a type of poker tournament. Regular poker tournaments begin at a scheduled time with numbers simply depending on how many have registered. In contrast, sit and go poker tournaments start when a set number of players have registered.
Sit And Go Format
Sit and gos follow a similar format to regular poker tournaments; everyone pays the same buys-in and each player startss with the same number of poker chips. Each player plays in the tournament until all their chips are gone.
In the Money…
As players are knocked out, they receive money according to which place they finish in. First place makes the most money, second a little less, and so on.
Certain sit and go tournaments, called “Winner Takes All”, only reward first prize with money. The winning player takes all the buy-ins from each player.
SNG Blinds & Antes
Some sit and gos – usually heads up sit and gos – don’t ever increase the blinds, encouraging skillful play to be better rewarded over the long run, as players aren’t forced to play middling hands due to the pressure of higher blinds and antes.
Unlike ring games, sit and go games increase the blinds (and antes) regularly in equal intervals.
